What is the Smith Lecture?
The Smith Lecture was founded by a group of people concerned to bring Christian thinking to the forefront of public discussion among the leaders of the city of Sydney. It aims to provide an opportunity for a Christian public figure to present his or her perspective on a subject relevant to the life of the city. Past Smith Lecturers include Dr Peter Jensen, Anglican Archbishop of Sydney (2001) with a lecture entitled Is God silent?, The Honourable Justice Ken Handley, A.O., Judge of Appeal, Supreme Court of NSW (2002) with a lecture entitled Our sense of justice: evolutionary accident or hardwired?, and Dr John Dickson, ancient historian and author of If I Were God, I'd Make Myself Clearer (2003) with a lecture entitled Searching for clarity in a world of claims. We hope you will get involved with the Smith Lecture program and look forward to seeing you at a lecture or seminar. |
